Trip Report: Day 1 – Gary of Auckland Marine Centre and Friends Sailfish Fishing in Rompin

Fishing dates: 12-14 October 2017

Gary from Auckland Marine Centre is on his first fishing trip to Kuala Rompin with friends, Andrew and Dave.

If you’re looking for anything boating in New Zealand, you should definitely check out Auckland Marine which is one of New Zealand’s finest dealerships offering a wide range of marine products and accessories. Incorporated in 1989, Auckland Marine is one of Auckland longest standing marine businesses in New Zealand.

The trip started off with an early morning pickup at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) where the guys had flown in from Auckland. They were then “checked into” one of our guesthouse.

The first day of fishing turns out to be good fishing in calm seas. Something which Gary and the guys describe as very relaxing compared to the choppy seas back home.

Watch the video:

Gary’s first sailfish is a chunky one

The first day itself sees one of Andrew’s Daiwa reel complaining and making funny noises, much like a gatling gun, towards the end of the day and after a few blistering sailfish runs.

The sailfish does test out reels pretty well with its long high-speed runs.

We finished the day with 7 fish landed and a yummy meal at the restaurant. The guys loved the curry fish by the way and we ordered that dish nearly every dinner thereafter!

Enjoy some of the images from that day.
