Hi there,
I’m planning to visit Malaysia around the middle of the year, possibly June.
I’ve seen references on the Internet to good fishing in Malaysia, both in fresh water streams and lakes and in the sea. When I travel I like to target larger fish and exotic species that I can’t catch here in Australia. And I’m drawn more to active fly and lure fishing than bait fishing, but have done my share of the latter.
Is June the best time of the year to go fishing in Malaysia? I chose that month because there is ( I believe) less rain then. But, Malaysia seems to me much like northern Australia. Usually the fishing is much better just before and after the heavy rain of the wet season? Which month of the year is best for fishing overall?
The fish I species I would like to catch most are toman, sebarau and peacock bass. If I can catch some large saltwater species such as trevally, queen fish, mackeral and so on, that would be good too. I am less sure about fishing for sailfish as it seems to depend very much on weather patterns — here in Australia the dry El Nino has gone and the wet La Nina is upon us — so the fish could be far fewer now?
As I am retired, I travel on a budget, so there is a limit to what I can afford to pay for guiding. But when I travel, the fish are only part of the reason. I also enjoy seeing new places and meeting and getting to know local people. I am probably not alone here. Can you recommend a good reliable guide/ or guides for when I visit Malaysia?.
Regards,
Bob Beamish
