Distribution
Western Indian Ocean, East Coast of Africa, Northward to the Red Sea, Eastward to the Eastern Indian Ocean and Western Central Pacific, Japan, Australia and Malaysia.
Biology & fishery
Inhabits coral reefs at depths of 13-160m. Maximum size recorded 100 cm. (25 kg). Normally caught with hook and line, spears, traps and gill nets.
Commercial importance
Highly regarded eating fish. Sold fresh.
