Rompin Sailfish on Shimano Baitrunner D

Fisho “Frogfish” Alan managed to give the Shimano Baitrunner 8000D a good workout on a recent Rompin Sailfish fishing outing. It was a great fight and the fish came early.

First stop as usual, for all the boats, were to jig for live baits with sabiki jigs. The baits were a little smaller than preferred this time round but the first sail still came fast and thick. The little Tamban hardly swam for 10 minutes in the seas when the Baitrunner started to sing every fisher’s favorite tune. zzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZ the spool spun and the fight was on.

Check out the video and remember to leave a comment. If you prefer, there’s a full length version of the battle here.

  1. It was a great day out at sea and again my smile confirmed that. Shimano Baitrunner is a good reel. Now I will just have to test it out on a dozen Giant Mekong Catfish. If it survives, it will qualify as a great budget reel. BTW, is there a Fishing Thailand 2011 assuming no riots?

Check out latest technical videos of new Saltiga 2010 at plat.co.jp. Made me drool.

  2. :)

Fishing Thailand 2011 is certainly in the agenda. In fact, if all goes well, there may be Fishing Thailand 2011 I, II, III and so on.

Yes, the Saltiga is a nice reel.

  3. Hello,
nice fighting and nice release !
One question, what rod you match with an 8000D reel ?
And with which braid did you fill it ?

    1. Hello David, wow that was sometime ago. I’m having problem remembering exactly which models are used. They’re likely no more in the market as well. Sorry about that but many thanks for reading and leaving a comment.
