Rompin Sailfish with Classic Abu Ambassadeur 7000C and PENN Powerstix Rod – Video

Will the classic reel stand-up to the high-speed run of a sailfish?

Bob travels the world, fishing and living life as many should be doing. Perhaps even going through his bucket list.

He’s caught many species of fish and finally landed at Rompin, Malaysia to land his sailfish. Caught a couple he did and then some.

  1. Hey Bob, if you happen to read this. I replied to your email but they got sent back.

I think your spam firewall is doing too good of a job.

    Did you reset it recently?

  2. The Abu Ambassadeur 7000 reels made in the 1970’s are classics. I still have many and use them for GT, large Barramundi, etc. Their only drawback is their sticky drags, which can now be sorted out using carbonated drag washers. The C reels were most always black being black chromed brass and the red reels like the only in the picture were not C reels and had red anodizing over aluminum side plates. So, just wondering if that reel was a C.

Super video and lovely fish. Well done.

    1. Hi Zal,

Thank you for your comments and compliments, really appreciate them. You are right about the sticky drag. I’ve always known about the red C Ambassadeur reels from Sweden. They do come in red. I have a 5000C in red, too.
