Painted Sweetlip

Painted Sweetlip (Plectorhinchus pictus)
Kaci, Tebal Bibir, Mandi Abu

Found in the Indian Ocean and Western Central Pacific, including tropical coast of Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

Average size is 45 cm but can reach 60 cm.

Often found roaming or waiting for prey on sand or mud in coral reef areas and also shallow coastal waters. Feeds on bottom-living inverterbrates and fishes.

Fish in photo caught live-baiting with scrimp. It fights hard but lacks stamina and generally runs out of oomph after a couple of seconds. Will be fun to catch on light tackle though and tastes good steamed.

Commercially marketed fresh.

Ever wonder how it got its name?
