Coming, and Cast!… and repeat. Some words shouted out very often when fly fishing for sailfish in Kuala Rompin. Hey, we get really excited when a lit-up sailfish shows up behind the teaser.

Furthermore, fly fishing for billfish is arguably one of the most exciting thing you can do on a boat, with a rod.

What Fly fishing Gear for Sailfish?

12 weight to 15 weight gear. Shooting head, floating or sink tip lines. We like intermediate to fast sink-tip particularly when casting to free swimming fish.

Yes, on certain days you will get the chance to cast to free-swimming sailfish. It is not at all easy but it sure is very exciting.

Practice Your Casts

It is always a good idea to practice casting those gear and get familiar with them before your trip. Especially so if you are buying new gear for the trip.

Be ready always. Line management is crucial, when the sailfish shows up you want to be able to make a cast, very quickly. No knots, no tangles.
