Loop knots are essential and can sometimes make the difference between getting a bite especially when fishing are tough.
This knot is called the non-slip loop knot and it has many use in fishing applications.
Live-baiting is the most effective method to catch sailfish in many situations. Sailfish often casually swimming around and look at their prey giving them time to inspect them.
We use the loop knot very often when tying hooks for live-baiting and this is the knot that we use. It is easy and quick to tie and never fails.
Note that the tag end can enter the loop (shown in the video) from either side and one will have the finished knot with the tag end pointing out and the other towards the hook. Watch the video above to see what I mean.
Personally I always insert the tag end from the top as I find that it has worked for me for my use.
I personally use this knot most often in the following situations:
- Hook knot when live baiting as this enables the hook to swing more freely and allow the live bait to be a little more lively
- Knot for lures with no split ring
- Knot for certain flies in fly fishing situations
