JANUARY 2022 VISIT
Our last fishing session at Jugra was in 2019 the last time I checked. The following year in 2020 the pandemic hit and like many businesses, fishing ponds like this were also affected by lockdowns and such.
The pond was practically drained of water sometime in 2021 but reopened in the new year on 1st January 2022. We decided to go check it out.
The owner told us there are now 2 ponds filled up where they were before.
One is with groupers of 4 to 5kg (pond directly in front of hut/office).
To the left is the siakap (barramundi) pond and fishes are 2kg upwards.
The pond on the right where redfish used to be housed is still dry when we went. Hopefully they will restock the redfish again, which is my favourite amongst the species here.
Unfortunately for us the day we chose to fish rained rather heavily through the morning and only the second half of our 3-hour fishing time there saw fish starting to bite. They were quiet when we fished in the rain.
Catch Result for that Day
Nevertheless, we managed 7 siakap and 3 groupers amongst the 3 of us during the 3-hour session. Below are some photos that we took.
Jugra Pond Fee
The fee now is RM20 per hour. 3 hours is RM50. Not much different from previously.
Location of Jugra Saltwater Pond
Jugra Catch and Release fishing pond is 42 km from KLIA and 65 km from KL city centre.
Something to take note is the area is dotted with fish ponds that look rather similar so it can get a little challenging finding the right pond if you have never been there. Ask to make sure it is catch and release. The others are mostly pay for and take home what you catch.

2016 UPDATE
The redfish appears to have wised-up and are not that easy to fool anymore, although a couple of fish still fell for the flies.
There are mangrove jacks and redfish in one pond – giant trevally, golden snappers and groupers in the other. If you know what you are doing here, you quickly figure out a pattern and start getting regular hits.
4 PONDS
Currently there are 4 ponds for sport fishing (catch & release). At times you can buy your catch at market price if you wish.
The rightmost pond is stocked with redfish and GT.
The next pond from right – groupers
Third and fourth pond from right – barramundi
Great read :D Awesome photos,as always
Thanks!
Nice catches. where is this pond located? any GPS coordinates? Many thanks
Thanks, KT. The GPS coordinates have been added to the post, right at the end.
Jugra pond still in operation till now ?
Hi Andy, Jugra catch and release pond is mostly closed the last I heard with only one sad pond left. I should update this post. Thanks for the reminder.
Hi, any update on whether the pond is still operating?
I’ve been told it’s closed. Haven’t had a chance to personally check the place out.
Can I know what time they open during the weekend?
Their business hours are from 7am-2am
Nice, do they provide fishing rod?
No they do not. You’ll have to bring your own gear.
Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea which fishing pond have provide fishing gear?
I can’t think of any that does, Edward. – JW
Great read and great pictures :) was wondering if you get to keep your catch for free or do you have to buy the fish later on? Are you allowed to catch and release? Cheers
Thanks, Nashty. They have 3 ponds each for catch and release only, and catch and buy.
is there fishing rod for rental?
Sorry about the late response, Molly. Have been off the grid fishing in Mongolia. There is no fishing gear rental at this pond.
