Here are some ways we can cut down on bottle usages, purchasing ice and save a bit of money while at it.
Freeze your drinking water bottles in your freezer before taking them with you. This way you will always have ice-cold water to drink, without actually needing ice to keep the drinks cold!
Keep them empty plastic bottles and fill up with tap water and freeze them again to use as ice for keeping your catch fresh in the cooler.
What do you think? Do you have any tips on recycling?
Good idea. Sometimes we bring food along for a full day of fishing, keep the plastic bags as trash bags. Also, some folks like me like to bring disposable poncho. When the rain stops and its time to head home, I use the disposable poncho to wrap my fish.
And to add on a little bit to your DIY ice pack, you can add salt (be it rock salt or your usual table salt) to the water. It forces the freezing temperature of the mixture lower, and stays frozen for a longer period. Another replacement is freeze seawater in the bottle outright.
Marvelous tips Ed, thanks for sharing them.
I find them disposable ponchos are just great. They’re easy to store and I realise they can actually be worn multiple times. So I dry them, fold and repack them into the original packing for re-use. That’s what I’ve been doing and they are so affordable!
