I could not resist but schedule this post for 10-10-10 at 10:10 :-P
I remember a long way back when there was a craze for chasing after Marlins and other billfish on ultra-light tackle right down to 4-pound test lines. It seem like every saltwater angler were trying to outdo one another and prove their worth of salt. Until these ‘stunts’ or act of lunacy were being ridiculed.
No surprise because it was just a bunch of fishermen in their powerful fancy sportfisher chasing down the fish while the angler reels like mad. It went on and on till the fish tires or the boat runs out of gas. Okay, I made up the out-of-gas part. But it was all really stupid.
And lately it seem there’s a resurgence of sorts. Or is it just me? I see anglers rushing to catch Sailfish on kayaks and rafts. What will they think of next?
It may be worth the risks if you work on a fishing show and viewer rating is important. What about those that do it just for kicks?
I mean it all looks kinda reckless to me. What’s wrong with catching Sailfish from a proper boat using proper tackle? Minimize the danger plus properly resuscitate and release the fish. One of the worst thing they do is let the fight drag on so that the fish tires and becomes safer to ‘land’. Are these also the same fishermen who utter profanities when they learn of a game fish that died in an unnatural manner?
It’s all fun and laughter until somebody gets hurt. Share your thoughts on this. What’s your opinion?
