A photo gallery update of the recent catches from the Natural Exotic Fish Fishing Pond, Rawang.
You can read a review of the pond in my earlier post here. There is also a walkthrough video. The fishes you see here are caught in a variety of methods, lures, live baiting but many are caught fly-fishing.
The general rule of thumb to remember when fishing artificial baits here, either lure or fly-fishing, is to fish the bait slow and just off the bottom.
Many hard-bodied lures will work as long as they are the sinking variety. Let the lure sink to the bottom and retrieve dead slow or twitch it back very slowly with a lot of pauses.
Soft plastics work great and the fishing method is the same as above.
For fly-fishing, so far the most effective fly pattern is the black Woolly Bugger, also fished very slowly ate the bottom.
Other flies that have worked are Nymphs and Zonkers flies.
The Amazon Redtail Catfish is among the most powerful fish in the pond. Immense fun on fly. This Amazon Redtail was caught using TFO’s BVK #7 Rod and BVK II reel. Saw lots of backing on this one!

Austin who came from Taiwan had a blast at the pond.
Jelawat or Mad Barbs fight like their namesake when hooked. It’s difficult to predict which direction it will run. Fun.
